ABOUT

Provenance

The provenance of the available art pieces adds significant historical and cultural value to the collection. Curated by Kris De Meester at Velvet Room, these original drawings were acquired directly from Frédéric Bruly Bouabré's relatives, ensuring their authenticity and maintaining a strong connection to the artist’s legacy. This direct lineage not only solidifies the integrity of the collection but also underscores its importance as a repository of Bouabré’s artistic and cultural contributions.

Same Ideas, Different supports

The works offered here originate directly from the family of Frédéric Bruly Bouabré. In correspondence with Arthur Bruly Bouabré, the artist's grandson, it was confirmed that Frédéric Bruly Bouabré regularly revisited ideas from his Connaissance du Monde ("Knowledge of the World") project and his alphabet system, reproducing and expanding earlier concepts on new supports as materials became available. According to Arthur Bruly Bouabré, this process formed a natural part of the artist's mission to preserve and disseminate knowledge. Consequently, certain images may exist in multiple versions and on different supports, reflecting the evolving and cumulative character of Bouabré's practice.

All collections come with a certificate of authenticity signed by at least one of the family members of Frédéric Bruly Bouabré.
